SoKo Steidle + Alexander von Schlippenbach was recorded on 6.5.22 and 15.5.22 at the XJazz Festival / Berlin and Industriesalon / Berlin. For the 20 year anniversary of my band SoKo Steidle, I wanted to take the opportunity to record a CD with Alex, with whom I played in different line ups over the past years (f.e. Globe Unity Orchestra).
He, Aki Takase and of course Rudi, Henrik and Jan are family, from which I participated, especially when it is about free improvisation. For me, freedom and spontaneity as well as rival competition until harmonious interaction, is the main core of the Berlin sound of Jazz, rich as a whole wheat bread. Short melody fragments are picked up, varied, garnished, transformed and give new impulses that float back into the whole thing. It arises a pulsating movement, a organic body, full of energy and virtuosity. About our first recording Alex wrote: „they play together like devils and swing like motherfuckers“ – now, we do it with him. Cheers to the next 20 years !

SoKo Steidle + Alexander von Schlippenbach ‚Live in Berlin‘ SoKo Steidle + Alexander von Schlippenbach wurde am 6.5.22 und 15.5.22 beim XJazz Festival + im Industriesalon aufgenommen. Zum 20-jährigen Bestehen meiner Band SoKo Steidle wollte ich die Gelegenheit nutzen eine CD mit Alex aufzunehmen, mit dem ich über die Jahre in verschiedensten Konstellationen immer wieder gespielt hatte (u.a. im Globe Unity Orchestra). Er, Aki Takase und natürlich auch Rudi, Henrik und Jan sind Familie, die mich über die Jahre geprägt hat, vor allem, wenn es um freie Improvisation geht. Freiheit und Spontanität sowie rivalisierende Konkurrenz bis hin zu harmonischem Zusammenspiel, verkörpern für mich den ‚Berlin-Sound of Jazz‘, reichhaltig wie ein Vollkorn-Brot. Kurze Melodie-Fragmente und Rhythmen werden aufgegriffen, variiert, garniert, transformiert und geben ihrerseits neue Impulse, die in das Ganze zurückfließen. Es entsteht eine pulsierende Bewegung, ein organisches Ganzes, voller Energie und Virtuosität. Alex schrieb über unsere erste Platte: „Sie spielen zusammen wie die Teufel und swingen wie Motherfucker“ – das machen wir nun mit ihm! Auf die nächsten 20 Jahre!
