Ich erinnere mich gut an dieses Konzert. Zum einen war der Veranstaltungsort neu, verschwand dann aber so schnell wieder von der Bildfläche, dass ich nicht sicher bin, ob sich überhaupt viele an ihn erinnern. So war das Konzert von einer liebenswerten Frische geprägt, die genauso schick war wie das Wort zu der Zeit. Aber die Leute kamen natürlich wegen der Musik, wegen der Erwartung, dass Davids brandneues New Yorker Ich etwas zum Ausdruck bringen würde, das gerade erst am Entstehen war. Diese Platte ist der replizierte Inhalt einer Zeit sowie der Ausdruck dieser Zeit und des Ortes. New York City war 1977 die intellektuelle Kurzfassung dessen, was vergangen war, um uns zu dem zu bringen, was gegenwärtig war, und uns auch auf die wichtige kommende Musik aufmerksam zu machen. Und so haben wir diese großartige Musik, die David Murray auch heute noch macht. Aber diese Aufnahme ruft auch unsere Erinnerung an drei großartige Musiker wach, die leider nicht mehr unter uns weilen. Amiri Baraka

I remember this concert well. On the one hand, the venue was new, but then disappeared from the scene so quickly that I am not sure whether many remember it at all. So the concert was marked by an endearing freshness that was just as chic as the word at the time. But people came naturally because of the music, because of the expectation that David’s brand new New Yorker I would express something that was just about to emerge. This plate is the replicated content of a time as well as the expression of that time and place. New York City in 1977 was the intellectual summary of what had passed to bring us to what was present, and also to draw our attention to the important upcoming music. And so we have this great music that David Murray still makes today. But this recording also evokes our memory of three great musicians who, unfortunately, are no longer with us. Amiri Baraka
